What is the Winter Solstice?
The Winter Solstice, also known as Yule, celebrates the return of the sun and the gradual lengthening of daylight following the longest night of the year. It symbolizes the delicate balance between light and darkness, where the longest night represents the pinnacle of darkness before the gradual emergence of light. Our festival honors this ancient tradition, offering a range of activities that serve as symbols of hope, warmth, and the triumph of light over darkness.
What to expect:
Location: Shambala estate is comprised of 5 acres of magical gardens in the heart of Tamborine Mountain. You will find secret gardens, waterfalls, ancient trees, wildlife and meandering pathways.
Opening Ceremony: Join us for a special opening ceremony to mark the beginning of the Winter Solstice celebration. Experience a symbolic ritual to welcome the season of solitude and rest.
Fire Ritual: Participate in a transformative fire ritual to release what no longer serves you and make space for new beginnings. Let go of the past and embrace the possibilities of the future.
Mulled Wine / Cacao: Sip on warming beverages such as mulled wine or cacao as you reflect on your inner care and nourishment during the season of introspection.
Bonfire: Gather around the bonfire and bask in its comforting glow as we come together to share stories, laughter, and camaraderie.

Garland Crafting: Using natural products of the season such as cinnamon sticks and dried orange slices to symbolise the return of the sun and the promise of brighter days ahead.
Pomander Orange Crafting: Make your own pomander orange with cloves to invoke protection and ward off illness during the winter months.
